Hi Reader, I recently shared that I'm writing a devotional book with my parents about their travels to all 50 states. There is one short devotion for each state--perfect for daily reading and easy to fit into a busy schedule. Some people may think that coming up with a book title is easy, or that an author has the title of a book long before it's even written. While that is the case sometimes, there can be a lot of brainstorming that can goes into choosing a book title. It can be very challenging.
And then when you do decide on one, you might re-think it or consider another title later. I did that this past week. I was even going to ask you to vote on which title you preferred. But after a day or two, I went back to the original title—the one I picked many months ago. And today, I'm sharing that with you: From Sea to Shining Sea: 50 Daily Devotions from Traveling to Every State in America The short devotions inside this book offer spiritual lessons to deepen your faith. And there are Bible verses, reflection questions, and prayer prompts that provide daily direction to keep your focus on God. I'll share more in the coming weeks about how you may want to get involved as we get closer to the release date. A cool feature that will be available for free in the book is a 3-minute photo slideshow video. It's a video of pictures my parents took over the years that show some of the places the devotions are based on. The video will be available through a link in the book. Anyway, below is a sneak peek at one of the devotions. It's the Colorado devotion. This devotion is about making good choices. And, who knows, you might even learn something about U.S. geography, too! 😊 Choices The Four Corners Monument is where the four states of Colorado, Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico all come together. Their corners meet here. It’s the only point where four states in the United States come together. The names of the four states are written in large letters at the site, and each state’s flag flies high in the air. Nearby, Native Americans had artwork, scarves, and jewelry beautifully displayed in booths, and Marsha bought magnets and souvenirs. There is a small brass plate where the actual four corners of these states meet. It’s embedded within a circle of pink granite that has these words carved into the outer edge: “Four states here meet in freedom under God.” Visitors line up to take photos at this spot. Some people lay down and put an arm and a leg in each state, so they’re in all four states at the same time. We took a picture of Gene’s feet—his left foot in New Mexico, his right foot in Colorado. Standing at this spot where these four states meet, it’s easy to choose which state you’d like to step into. It’s laid out clearly. You could stand in Utah and then take one step and you’d be in Colorado. But making choices in life isn’t always easy. In fact, life is complicated most of the time.
Each day we’re faced with making choices that can determine what happens that day and beyond. In the choices we make each day, may we choose to serve and live for God. And may He help us make decisions and choose the right way. Reflect How do I seek God when making decisions? Read Joshua 24:15b “You must choose for yourselves today. You must decide whom you will serve.” Pray Wisdom in making decisions. For the Holy Spirit to guide me as I consider choices in life. I'll share another update about From Sea to Shining Sea in a few weeks. Thanks for being part of my reader community. John Christopher Frame p.s. Hi Reader, When I was a boy, I’ll never forget stopping at the Field of Dreams movie site during a summer vacation with my parents. Credit: Giphy Field of Dreams is a great movie starring Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones, with an important theme of reconciliation. In the 50-day devotional book I wrote with my parents about their travels to all 50 states (coming out very soon!), one of the devotions is about our time at the Field of Dreams. Here it is...
