📖 I saw this on the Bible app...

Hi Reader,

I wanted to give you a heads-up about the next book I'll be releasing + share a sneak peek with you.

But first, I'll share this...

A couple days ago, I opened the Bible app on my phone and this came up:

Here's the text from the image above:

"You were raised from death with Christ. So aim at what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God." Colossians 3:1 ICB

You may want to reflect on this verse today and consider what it means to aim at what is in heaven, as you go about your day.

And one more thing, on a different topic...

Now, here's what I wanted to share with you about my next book...

I'm writing a devotional book with my parents about their travels to all 50 states. There is one short devotion for each state.

Through the devotions in this book, my parents share snapshots of a lifetime of journeys—from riding cross-country on a bus to a youth convention in California, to visiting the “Field of Dreams” in Iowa, to panning for gold in a shallow creek in South Dakota.

Below is one of the devotions inside the book. It's about one of my parents' experiences in the state of Indiana. Like the Bible verse shared above, this devotion is about living with a focus on heaven.

Challenges

The Indiana Dunes State Park, on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, has a sand dune that is nearly 200 feet tall. Sand dunes are huge mounds of sand that grow and shift from wind over time. Tall grasses partially cover the dunes, helping to reduce erosion and stabilize their shape.

During our visit to this state park, families were walking up the sand dunes. Children were playing, sometimes falling on the soft sand.

Walking in sand can be challenging, in general. So, walking up a hill of sand is even more of a struggle, as you keep your balance in the moving sand under your feet.

We can’t remember if we made it to the top of the large sand dune we walked up that day. The trip was too long ago, and we must not have had our camera with us, because we can’t find any pictures from that trip. We probably did, as we were younger then. We more easily pressed through challenges we faced, even if that meant going slowly.

For those who make it to the top of a large dune at the park, the view can be quite amazing. So, while the journey up can be difficult, the reward at the top is wonderful.

Like walking up a sand dune, our path in life is not always easy. Life has its ups and downs, its successes, and failures. There are countless obstacles along the way, and we might even fall down a few times.

The challenge is to keep moving forward, regardless of the missteps or difficulties along the journey.

Regardless of the challenges we face in life, let’s always aim for heaven as our goal. When we focus on heaven, along with God’s presence with us today, we might feel differently about the challenges we currently face.

Keeping our eyes on Christ, we can face life’s challenges with a heavenly perspective, and continue our journey, upward and onward.

Reflect: How can keeping a focus on heaven help me during my challenges?

Read: Philippians 3:13-14 (ICB)

Brothers, I know that I have not yet reached that goal. But there is one thing I always do: I forget the things that are past. I try as hard as I can to reach the goal that is before me. I keep trying to reach the goal and get the prize. That prize is mine because God called me through Christ to the life above.

Pray: For strength through challenges.

In a few weeks, I'll tell you the title of this new book, and share another sneak peek.

Hi Reader, I like the worship song "Living Hope," by Phil Wickham - a song that focuses on the hope and freedom that Christ gives. "Jesus Christ, my living hope," the song says. You may have moments in life where you feel desperate in some way or another - spiritually, physically, emotionally, financially... You may feel hopeless. Maybe you read the news and hear about all that goes on in the world, and you're like... Credit: Tenor There's just so much crime, war, illness, poverty, sadness......

Hi Reader, About three weeks ago, I woke up on a Saturday with a headache. It had been a hot night and I hadn't slept well. I did my normal morning routine, including going downstairs to the café in our building for an iced latte. But I didn't feel like myself. A little while later, I walked to the electrical shop that sells lightbulbs and light fixtures, and bought a fan (yes, that probably sounds a little bit strange - we live in the center of Istanbul, and everything we need is in our...

Hi Reader, I'm working on writing a book with my parents. It's a 50-day devotional about their travels to all 50 states in the USA. A while back, when I was working on the devotion for the state of Alaska, I was looking at some Bible verses appropriate for that devotion. The theme is change. I came across the verse below (which I remember I sent in an email last year to all of you who were on my list then)... "This is my prayer for you: that your love will grow more and more; that you will...
