🎬 Have you seen this movie everyone remembers?

Hi Reader,

When I was a boy, I’ll never forget stopping at the Field of Dreams movie site during a summer vacation with my parents.

Field of Dreams is a great movie starring Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones, with an important theme of reconciliation.

In the 50-day devotional book I wrote with my parents about their travels to all 50 states (coming out very soon!), one of the devotions is about our time at the Field of Dreams.

Here it is...

Iowa

Reconciliation

In the middle of hundreds of acres of cornfields in Iowa is the setting of the 1989 movie Field of Dreams. We were on our way back home from Yellowstone National Park when we stopped here for a visit. Our son John, who was twelve years old at the time, was with us.

The baseball field featured in the movie is open to visitors, and nearby is the two-story white farmhouse with a large wraparound porch and a white picket fence. John enjoyed sitting on the steel bleachers, walking the freshly mowed outfield, and running the bases on the field. He left with a Field of Dreams T-shirt, a dried ear of corn, a tube with some dirt in it, and a memorable experience he fondly recalls to this day.

You might be familiar with the storyline of the movie: The owner of the farm, walking among tall stalks of corn, heard a strange whisper: “If you build it, he will come.” He began plowing up his cornfield to make a baseball field, and when he finished, his deceased father, as well as famous baseball players from the past, came to play on the field.

At the end of the movie, the farmer and his dad meet and quietly reconcile, shaking hands and throwing a baseball back and forth on the field.

There’s a story in the Bible that relates to dreams and reconciliation: the story of Joseph, in the Book of Genesis. It’s fascinating. Joseph was a dreamer, and though his brothers wanted to kill him, they all reconciled years later.

In Field of Dreams, the farmer didn’t know the meaning of his dream or that it would lead to him being reconciled with his dad. Through action that led to reconciliation, his life was changed for the better.

Reflect

What spiritual and emotional benefits come from reconciliation?

Read

Genesis 45:14-15a

Then Joseph hugged his brother Benjamin and cried. And Benjamin cried also. Then Joseph kissed all his brothers. He cried as he hugged them.

Pray

For guidance if there is anyone I need to be reconciled with.

In our book, From Sea to Shining Sea, there is one devotion for each state.

The book is based on real travels to all 50 states—written to refresh your faith and gently guide you closer to God one day at a time.

Can you do me a favor?

I decided to do something new to launch this book: I'm launching it on Kickstarter.

Kickstarter is a website where authors and creators can introduce their work and where people can support their project, starting at $1.

Funds raised will go toward advertising and marketing to help From Sea to Shining Sea reach new readers around the world.

The cool thing about Kickstarter is that I'm offering a few simple ways you can get involved and receive something special in return—rewards you won't be able to get anywhere else. One gives you the opportunity to have your name in the book, listed in the Acknowledgments section.

So, it's definitely something to check out.

So, here's the favor...

Hi Reader, I recently shared that I'm writing a devotional book with my parents about their travels to all 50 states. There is one short devotion for each state--perfect for daily reading and easy to fit into a busy schedule. Some people may think that coming up with a book title is easy, or that an author has the title of a book long before it's even written. While that is the case sometimes, there can be a lot of brainstorming that can goes into choosing a book title. It can be very...
