Ask yourself this question 🤔

Hi Reader,

Do you know what this is?

It's a water pressure regulator.

Up until a few years ago, I'd never heard of it.

If water comes through your pipes too forcefully, this thing slows it down so the water doesn't blast through and break the pipes inside your home.

The one that was installed on the main pipe into our home was causing some issues...

The shower would get cold a minute after the toilet was flushed.

The water in the kitchen sink usually didn't get hot unless--as strange as it sounds--we also turned on the faucet in the bathroom sink.

I'm pausing here for a little "advertisement."

Have you checked out my new 7-day devotional on the Bible App?

Each day is personally narrated by me, in my voice.

Start this 7-day devotional plan and "Travel" from Maine to Hawaii, strengthening your hope along the way.

Now, back to the story...

I'll spare you the details of how long it took for me to pinpoint the cause of the issues we were having with our water.

In the end, my theory was that mineral buildup was blocking the flow of water through our old water pressure regulator.

So, water wasn't flowing into our home as it should.

A couple weeks ago, I bought a new water pressure regulator (the one in the picture above) and a plumber installed it in less than 30 minutes.

Now, the water pressure is perfect.

There's hot water in the kitchen (without having to turn on the bathroom faucet). 🙂

The shower doesn't get cold.

For a long time, I thought the problem was related to the source--that the water pressure coming into the building we live in wasn't as strong as it used to be.

But the source of the water wasn't the problem.

There seemed to be something preventing the water from going through that old water pressure regulator.

Water wasn't going through it as it once did.

What does this have to do with anything?

Like what I guessed was mineral buildup in the old water pressure regulator, "junk" may have built up in your life, preventing the flow of God's Spirit through you.

Maybe you've noticed it over time--a little less joy or feeling further from God.

The first step is acknowledging it--something in your life that shouldn't be there.

Then you can take steps to change.

So, Reader, what in your life needs a "plumber" to fix something so you can more fully experience the presence of God?

What may be hindering the Spirit of God moving in and working through you?

Maybe you're thinking, There are a lot of things.

Maybe you need a plumber and an electrician and a carpenter...

Maybe you feel you need a whole new house.

Getting overwhelmed and not making any change isn't good.

So, start simple.

What's one thing that might be keeping God's Spirit from flowing in your life?

Think about that. Then consider what you need to do to make a change.

Woman holding phone with Bible app devotion

Hi Reader, I’ve created a 7-day plan on the YouVersion Bible App based on From Sea to Shining Sea, the book I wrote with my parents. It takes you from Maine to Hawaii, and I personally narrated it. Seven states in seven days... It's called "From Sea to Shining Sea: Hope for Your Journey." All seven devotions point you toward hope. You'll "visit" covered bridges, the St. Louis Arch, Yellowstone National Park, and other places. You can start by watching a brief video of me introducing the...

Hi Reader, A couple of weeks ago, I went to a small park down the street to record a short video. I read a devotion out of From Sea to Shining Sea, as mosquitos or something was biting my legs. Later, I polished the video and uploaded it to YouTube. This devotion is about renewal--based on Yellowstone National Park and the trip my parents and I took there. That was three years after the devastating forest fire there in 1988. During our visit, we saw dead trees that had burned. But after...

Hi Reader, A few months ago, a new restaurant opened in our neighborhood. When I saw pancakes on the menu, something you don’t come across very often here in Turkey, I had to try them. So, one day, I took a bottle of pancake syrup with me that I had purchased in the USA, and looked forward to a delicious breakfast. Like my mom or dad makes when my wife and I visit. As an American, my version of good pancakes looks something like this: Credit: Tenor When I ordered, I requested no chocolate...
